There is a new Service Plaza (and maybe several) on the Pennsylvania Turnpike (Hwy 76), and on my recent trip from Pittsburgh to New York I noticed the sign pictured above. Not only is there extra-special parking reserved for “Low-Emitting Fuel-Efficient Vehicles” but it is also right up front, next to the Handicap spaces. I was amazed.

I had heard about preferred parking for hybrid vehicles, but this was the first time I actually got to use it. On the way East I hadn’t noticed it until after I had parked, but on the way back I drove right up to the front and took my place on the “I am so special” throne.

The irony of it in my mind is that when I am on the road I actually prefer to park as far away from the building as possible so that I can get a little walking in and stretch my legs. My first thought was that most people driving super-efficient cars would also welcome the walk, but then I remembered that young, enviro-leaning, wiry , jumpy guys like myself are not the typical Toyota Prius drivers. Regardless, even if it’s just a parking space, I think it’s great to see official recognition that people driving fuel-efficient, low-emission vehicles are doing us all a favor.

WOO HOO!  We got a new Prius!  Traded in the old one, which was great, and got this one  which is even more fancy.  The voice-controlled navigation and bluetooth cell phone action is amazingly cool.  I can’t wait to navigate in convoluted Pittsburgh now.

It’s starting to look like no one is going to buy the New Kids on the Block Bubblegum I’m selling on ebay. It doesn’t make any sense to me. How could someone not want it? It’s so awesome! It looks like there may not be a buyer for the Garfield Pencils I’m selling either. To me that one is not as hard to believe, but I really thought they would sell. There is still time for both items, but I’m just so surprized that there are no bids on either one yet.

Ok, but here’s the real shocker for me: the Toyota Prius keychain that I almost threw away is now over $20! Who knew? Maybe it’s rare, or maybe there are more keychain collectors out there than I thought… actually that must be it since I didn’t think there were ANY keychain collectors out there.

I’m still firing it up though. I’ll have a Dish Network DVR on sale on Tuesday, and I’m going to put up some vintage Mark Hayward t-shirts later today I think. I’ll post a link when I do.

That’s right… I just won on ebay. My first ebay auction ended very early this morning, and I got a respectable $6.63 for my 19 year-old Mountain Dew can. While I’m content with the outcome, I was hoping, as all ebay sellers do, that my item would be the envy of all the rich collectors around the world, and that they would stumble over themselves trying to outbid each other. The Mountain Dew can was my trial run, just to see how it all worked… now on to bigger and better things: like Garfield Pencils and New Kids On The Block Bubble Gum. Yeah, you want ’em.

I have a 2004 Toyota Prius. It is the best car ever. I want to sell it.

So you’re thinking, “If the Prius is the best car ever, why do you want to sell it?” Two reasons:

  1. New things are VERY enticing, and the new Prius has some nice new little features besides just being new
  2. A new Prius won’t have 87,000 miles on it

Here’s what I have done so far:

  • Put a for sale sign in the window with my phone number
  • Posted an ad on Craig’s List

Results:

  • Two phone calls from the ad in the window
  • Nothing from Craig’s List
  • I still own my Prius

Possible Explanations:

Ate breakfast (Apple Jacks cereal… I’m not proud). Went to dog park. Took dog home, went to get oil changed and steering column recall done on Prius. Brought Taco Bell to Lenore at work. Forgot guacamole. Went to Takeshi’s house. Talked about his yo-yo DVD project. Painted some yo-yos. Came home. Fed and walked the dog. Ate dinner. Watched TV. Brushed teeth (and flossed). Worked on websites. Quick shower and reading of book on vaudeville coming up… then bed. Big day.
