Thanks Mike! It's always nice to know that there are other people up to the same thing. I will keep an eye out for Kroil.

Mark, I have been a stealth observer of your page and like you, I have just started my adventures with a Model A Coupe (1931).

Funny thing about the exhaust manifold, I did the exact same thing. However, I ended up getting a new exhaust manifold since my intake manifold was practically new. I could not see removing a quarter inch of material from the intake manifold!

I did take both to the shop to have them belt sanded - and it worked like a champ.

As for Evaporust - I used this to remove rust from my brake drums, spindles, oil pan, brake plates, tie rod, pitman arm, cylinder head, water pump, and a host of other parts! It is fantastic - and it can be used in the basement without fumigating the house!

I also used to use PB Blaster, but have become a convert to Kroil - it is another miracle in a can. After wrestling over a week with trying to free the emergency brake - using PB blaster, I used Kroil and all the parts were free within a few hours.

Good luck and keep on blogging! It's a wonderful page!

Cool thanks. I've been using PB Blaster with great success so far. Now that I think about it, I didn't try soaking the rusted parts. That might have worked better.

The brass nut idea sounds good if they're strong enough. Brass is pretty soft so sometimes they can't be torqued all the way to spec without stripping. Whenever I have a part off of my car, it goes back on with anti-seize (except the parts that require Loktite). It sort of messes up your torque values because it lubricates the thread so you can over-torque if you're not careful but disassembly is a lot easier down the road. For rusty things, try Evaporust. I've heard miracle stories about how well it works without affecting the base metal.
